The Sightings Page

This page may be used to share your sightings of plants, animals and other natural phenomena using the form below.

The primary field of interest for this page is the Region Of Waterloo and surrounding jurisdictions.  For sightings that are, in your opinion, rare and/or unusual, the field of interest may be extended to the Province of Ontario.  As space and time permit, sightings from other locations may be included.

Reported sightings will be posted within a reasonable time following receipt of same by the Web Site Manager.

 

To access these postings, click on the link for the appropriate month below.

 

Reported sightings will be available in monthly groupings for a time frame that is yet to be determined.  (depends on space and other system requirements)

Share a Sighting/Observation

The Sighting(s) Report form below is the format that is currently used to present sighting/observation information on the monthly sightings page.

To make a submission, send the Web Site Manager an email giving the information requested .  To save a little work for you, just give the information that goes under each heading.  Alternatively, you can copy the headings list into your email and fill in the information.

Sharing a Photograph with Your Sighting

If you would like to send a photograph of your sighting for display on the web site, please send it by email to the Web Site Manager.  Please include "Photo for Web Site" in the subject line.  Your photograph should be sized so that it is a maximum of 600 pixels on the longer side.  With the "Constrain Proportions" option selected, the shorter side will automatically be in the neighbourhood of 450 pixels.  The resolution need only be in the neighbourhood of 100 dots per inch (maximum of 150 dpi).  If these technical requirements present a concern for you, please consult with the Web Site Manager.

KWFN Checklist of Birds
of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo ( 2012)

This new and improved version of the KWFN Checklist was made available for the first time to KWFN Members at the Annual Generl Meeting, May 28, 2012.  Members not present at that meeting may pick up their free copy of the checklist at the General Meeting on September, 24, 2012.  Additional copies of the checklist are available to members at the nominal cost of $1.00.

Non-members are welcome to purchase a copy of the checklist for $1.00 at any meeting of the KWFN.  For meeting information, please go to the Meetings Page.

Christmas Bird Count (CBC) Results and Other Information

Our local CBC count circles are identified as Linwood, Kitchener and Cambridge.

For 2012, the local CBCs are scheduled as follows:
Kitchener - December 15th
Cambridge - December 16th
Linwood - December 30th (tentative).
For details and contact information, see separate announcements on the Notices Page.

Reports regarding the 2011 Kitchener and Linwood Christmas Bird Counts can be found in January 31, 2012 postings on the Notices Page. These CBC results represent only a small portion of the CBC sightings each year.
